From its quayside premises at the “Nouveau Bassin” in Caen, Artech is one of the few yards in the world able to offer the combination of Shipyard and Marine Architecture practice in-house. They offer a one-stop shop from design through to fabrication of composite sub-assemblies to the construction of the complete boat. Since its creation in 2001 Artech has been a leader in the rapidly growing international high performance racing yacht market due to its capability to apply exotic materials and advanced production techniques (digital machine tools, vacuum moulding, pre-impregnation, infusion etc) to satisfy the most demanding design requirements. This expertise makes Artech a perfect partner whether the need is for design studies, sub-assembly manufacturing, advance yacht construction or optimisation for volume production.
Behind Artech are the skills of two Southampton Institute trained naval architects, Jean-Baptiste Dejeanty and Soizic Dubois along with those of French trained engineer Gautier Nollet.
Projects
- Construction of the innovative and successful IMOCA Open 60 “Artech 60”. Sponsored by ANVAR and the French Ministry of Research in 2002, her tank tested chined carbon hull makes her unique amongst the IMOCA Open 60 class.
- Design and construction of two Mini Transat class sister ships in 2002.
- Deck and hull plan for Mini Transat class yachts.
- Construction of a motor launch of classic lines exploiting the latest high-tech materials and building techniques. The marriage of teak and mahogany with high-tech composites gives this launch a timeless elegance and a strong personality.
- Design and construction of “made to measure” components and sub assemblies.

For Eric Hébrard, the canal linking the deep-water port of Caen to the English Channel, the Normandy landing beaches, the Côte Fleurie and the Pont de Normandie spanning the Seine estuary was an obvious tourist attraction. Inspired, this ex naval officer began a service in June 2005 to show visitors the seaward face of Calvados. Boedic, a two deck craft of 77’ capable of carrying 197 passengers, provides a regular service throughout the year and, with her large saloon cabin, is an ideal choice for private parties.

Stéphane Goupil of Pelage Services is an expert in the treatment and eradication of osmosis in GRP hulls. His yard alongside the Caen Nouveau Bassin employs a two-stage process to prepare a hull for treatment.
First the antifouling is stripped off by a low-pressure washing/blasting system that uses specially formulated abrasive particles in place of the sand grains most commonly used in water blasting. Then a precision gel coat peeler, accurate to a millimetre, removes the old gel coat to expose the laminate prior to drying and recoating the hull. Pelage Services offer a specialist sub-contracting service to boatyards across France.
