Several companies have already taken advantage of support for their boat businesses:

Etienne Blondet (42), originally from Le Havre is an experienced sailor with many years’ worldwide shipping industry experience behind him: of selling to ship-owners and shippers and of the management of sales networks, notably for the brand “Bering”. His objective: “The best and most varied offer of chandlery, materials and accessories for sailors and to progressively increase the range to include clothing and decorative items with a nautical tone”. From next spring Accastillage Diffusion will be offering second-hand sailing dinghies: Lasers, Optimists, 420s, sports catamarans… The couple have taken over from Richard Lequertier who has moved to sales with Bateaux Diffusion.

 NORMANDIE PLAISANCE

Two steps from the Ouistreham marina port office, Bruno Vanwildermeersch, has opened a new yacht broker called “Normandie Plaisance”.
Yacht brokers, though common along the Mediterranean and UK coastline, are unusual on the Normandy coast. In creating “Normandie Plaisance” Bruno Vanwildermeersch intends to redress the balance. Just like an estate agent he will be an intermediary between buyers and sellers of boats. At 35 years of age, Bruno has considerable experience of managing second-hand boat sales for ACM where he sold 100 boats in 2 years. He has therefore experience and knowledge of the market. “My job is to create a catalogue of boats available, each supported by details and an inventory for the potential purchaser”. A role to bring together buyers and sellers based upon a knowledge of networks, boats and styles of sailing. For the seller, the broker will promote the boat to a range of potential purchasers, including the arrangement of trial sails. For the buyer, he will try and find the boats that meet the buyer’s requirements, offer an after sales guarantee and help with the transfer of the boat’s registration. A saving of time and effort for both buyers and sellers. After only a few weeks Bruno Vanwildermeersch has already 30+ boats on his books, both sail and power and a website is being built. Groupe Poncin has entrusted him with the sales of the Legend 43, the latest motor catamaran from Catana, which is available for trial sails at Ouistreham.

 François Rougier

Francois RougierGraduate engineer and reserve naval officer, François Rougier arrived in the Caen region in 2002, where he has since collaborated with a range of local businesses. In partnership with Jean Cardi, based in Toulon, the consultants’ specialisms are engineering and naval architecture for fishing and pleasure craft, marine works and service vessels. Client assignments can be either complete or a highly specialised contribution at the heart of a larger project. As their work is often “generalist” working alongside specialist companies, the in-house range of skills is a significant factor.

Generalist case studies:
- Design of pleasure boats, fishing craft and service vessels
- Design of mechanical loading systems
- Monitoring of building, trials, and acceptance trials.
- Inspection for conformity to standards and regulations

Hydrostatic and dynamics studies:
- Stability studies (stability calculations (PVS, GV))
- Optimisation of hulls and calculation of drag and performance (numerical calculation)
- Optimisation and calculation of foils (numerical calculation)

Structural studies:
- Calculation of resistance in metallic and composite structures (pre- or post-manufacture)
- Rig calculation and optimisation.

 ADAPTEC

ADAPTEC est devenu rapidement un acteur reconnu dans le milieu de la course au large et du yachtingSet up in 2002 by two former Moulinex managers from the R&D and Design departments, right from the beginning Adaptec Solutions was a specialist in the design and manufacture of industrial design prototypes.  SEAWAY NORMANDY

Founded in May 2004 at Caen, Seaway Normandy was born from the collaboration between Arnaud Lample (design), Benoît Cousin (composites) and the Seaway group of Slovenia. A European leader in naval engineering, Seaway Group offer a complete range of services from contract definition through to prototype delivery. As Seaway Normandy, Arnaud Lample and Benoît Cousin are responsible for all Seaway Group’s West European clients, for developing new business and for reinforcing the “grey matter” of the Slovenian company.
Additionally they bring their own special skills to the business to permit them to undertake new projects: Design - Arnaud Lample and moulding technology - Benoît Cousin. The mid term objective is to strengthen the team so that the firm can minimise the use of sub-contractors. Seaway Normandy is counting on the opening of the Dumont d’Urville business incubator in 2006 to provide it with a base for the new test workshop.

 YACHTS INDUSTRIES

Yachts Industries, chantier spécialisé dans la construction de maxi yachts en aluminiumSince 1954, ACM has been designing and manufacturing motor yachts recognized worldwide for their quality and seaworthiness. Located at Colombelles since 1998, next to the canal joining Caen to the sea, ACM’s reputation is for the construction of personalised luxury motor yachts. Acquired in September 2004 by the SEY Group in association with investment fund Green Recovery, ACM offers a range of powerboats for customers wishing to cruise all year long in efficient, seaworthy, sound and economical boats. With a new team at the helm, new goals for the boatyard and with the long awaited launch of its Arcoa Mystic 44 at the 2004 Paris Boat Show, ACM Yachts completes a year that has seen the business move forward dramatically.
The boatyard has restructured its operations, placing a greater emphasis on craftsmanship in production. In 2005, ACM Yachts plans to manufacture 40 boats with a workforce of 58 employees, compared with the 80 boats produced in 2003.
Alongside its classic cruisers (26 – 44 footers), the boatyard has added an open dayboat and two “lobsters” to its Arcoa range of 38 – 44 footers. Their design, inspired by American shrimpers, is much in demand.
Furthermore, in the wake of the Mystic 39, of which twenty have already been sold, ACM Yachts exhibited the prototype Mystic 44 at the Paris Boat Show, with the aim of producing 7 boats in 2005. Also this year, two smaller versions (32’ and 35’) will undoubtedly join the ACM family.
